Flatland/Spaceland, Joe Harvey-Whyte (2021)
Flatland/Spaceland is the debut EP from musician Joe Harvey-Whyte, featuring my artwork on the cover.
Musically the record is a stunning sonic experience, an ambient and meditative soundscape full of textural depth and serenity. It truly demands full immersion while listening.
Flatland/Spaceland is conceptually inspired by Edwin Abbott’s 1884 novel, Flatland: A Romance of Many Dimensions. Set in a fictional two-dimensional world, its main character, a square, becomes enlightened as he encounters a sphere and experiences a three-dimensional world for the first time. However, upon returning to the two-dimensional Flatland, he is not believed when he attempts to explain it to his fellow two-dimensional beings.
The limited edition 10” vinyl with embossed sleeve is available now via the link below, released on None More Records.

The original artwork featured on the cover is a cameraless photograph from my series Sketches of Shadows. It is a unique silver gelatin photogram, made entirely in the darkroom by using the soft, glimmering light of a flame ‘painted’ over black and white photographic paper.
